Prince Gholam Reza Pahlavi was born on May 15, 1923, in Tehran. He grew up during a period of major national transformation under his father’s rule.

As the brother of Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi, Princess Shams Pahlavi, Princess Ashraf Pahlavi, and Prince Ali Reza Pahlavi, he was part of the extended royal family connected to Iran’s political and social development.
