Princess Shahnaz Pahlavi
H.I.H Princess Shahnaz Pahlavi, the only child of Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi and Princess Fawzia of Egypt, was born in Tehran on October 27, 1940. As the first-born child of the Shah, she occupies a unique place within the history of the Pahlavi dynasty and represents a direct link between the Iranian and Egyptian royal families.
Born into the Imperial House of Iran during a period of national transformation under the Pahlavi dynasty, her mother, Princess Fawzia of Egypt, was a member of the Egyptian royal family. This connection positioned Princess Shahnaz as a symbol of the historic relationship between two prominent royal houses of the Middle East.
Following the separation of her parents, Princess Shahnaz was raised in Iran under the care of her father and remained closely connected to the Imperial Family throughout her life.
In 1957, Princess Shahnaz married Ardeshir Zahedi, who later served as Iran’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Ambassador to the United States. This marriage further connected her to Iran’s diplomatic and political circles during an important period in the country’s modern history. From this marriage, she had one daughter, Princess Mahnaz Zahedi.
Following the dissolution of her first marriage, she later married Khosrow Jahanbani in 1971. From her second marriage, she had two children: Princess Fawzia Jahanbani and Prince Keykhosrow Jahanbani.
Throughout her life, Princess Shahnaz maintained a relatively private profile compared to other members of the Imperial Family, while remaining closely associated with Iran’s cultural and social life.
As the eldest child of Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi, Princess Shahnaz holds a distinctive place in the history of the Pahlavi dynasty. Her life reflects both royal heritage and the broader historical ties between Iran and other royal houses of the region.
